Ping Pong and Blue Grass

I went on a sales call this afternoon BORINGuntill we went in the guys basement and I saw the ping pong table, I commented its been a while but I used to play frequently with my brother after the sales pitch he asked if I wanted to play a game or 2, I figured why not, the music he selected to listen to was the Seldom Seen, I thought right then how can I lose I have nostalgia on my side. Wrong again he whipped my ass properly in 4 games. To my credit I was making steady progress, each game was a little closer I figured another 30 or 40 games and I would have been right with him. It brought back memories of our basement in Annandale especialy the music, as I recall the games were a hell of a lot closer.

Kyla has over time helped me realize that there is a lot of good music out there these days. (Garrett's tastes run a lot harder than mine.) Still, now that I have an iPod and I am faced with the decision about what to put on it, I find my tastes still run to the folksey end. Alison Krause, who must have been in her baby carriage when the Seldom Scene were picking away, is great. I lost all of my old bluegrass albums 25 years ago in Cincinnati when I loaned them to a boyfriend of Dara's friend, who promptly broke up with her and took my albums as part of the bargain. The Seldom Scene have been seldom seen since then. I have also retained enough of my old ping pong skills to kick my kids' asses, and unless Garrett takes it up as recreation at SJState, I will probably retain my West coast family title.

The other thing I've been using to find new artists that conform to my taste is Pandora. All you need to do is put in a few artists' names or songs you like, and it will locate more that are similar. As they play you can give them a thumbs up or thumbs down to fine tune its taste to yours. Then you can track who it plays and add them to your "favorites". I've downloaded a number from iTunes that way, or you can just head out to the record store.

Come to think of it, I don't know what you meant when you said "Wrong again he whipped my ass properly in 4 games." That really should have brought out the nostalgia.
