Doesn't Taste Like Sh*t, Apparently

I heard a long time ago about the exotic coffee made from beans that were salvaged from animal turds, but the NYTimes brings us all the details. I sure want to rush out and buy some at $150/lb, especially now that I've seen the picture above.
Alberto Pat-og, 60, a retired school principal, said he did not understand why foreigners were willing to pay so much for a cup of the stuff.

“We are a bit surprised,” he said. “A bit perplexed.”

His son, Lambert, 20, added, with a big grin, “We are ignorant.”
Count me in the perplexed category.

Iris Lady's Reward

For whatever reason -- the rain (that continues today) or the maturity of all the irises we've planted over time -- we have the biggest bumper crop of irises so far. The Pacific Coast variety are just past their peak, the bearded are coming out in droves, with a few Douglas and Siberian chiming in.

Not your fathers Capitals

Ovechkin scores 50th goal, Backstrom tops 100 points in Capitals' 5-2 win over Thrashers I know ther isn't much interest in sports here but I know some of us suffered through a few Caps games when they were the worst team in hockey. The times they are a changin, now the Caps are the best team in the NHL and have the best player in the NHL. We saw a game last season and it was very entertaining and you can clearly see why Ovie is regarded as the best. Dad would be thrilled. All thats left is for them to win the Stanley Cup that may prove difficult but they are the odds on favorite. 'LETS GO CAP IT ALS'

Urban Legend

Whenever I get an EMail that makes some outlandish claim, I always head to Snopes to see if it's a well-known falsehood or perhaps even true:
Along with the freest access to knowledge the world has ever seen comes a staggering amount of untruth, from imagined threats on health care to too-easy-to-be-true ways to earn money by forwarding an e-mail message to 10 friends. “A cesspool,” Google’s chief executive, Eric E. Schmidt, once called it.

David and Barbara Mikkelson are among those trying to clean the cesspool. The unassuming California couple run Snopes, one of the most popular fact-checking destinations on the Web.
This NYTimes article about Snopes was interesting. Not surprisingly, they spend an inordinate amount of time chasing down political spam mail.

Missy forwarded me a story via Gail about someone buying a farm in an estate sale and discovering the barn was full of incredibly expensive cars of various vintages worth $35M. According to Snopes, the real story is interesting, but not as dramatic as that.
